of course we've been well aware of paul riekert's industrial battery 9 since he appeared on the scene around '94, writing, recording and producing 5 albums to date including the great latest 'sondebok'. it was paul's involvement in the two breyten breytenbach albums which really caught our attention though. his dedication to these projects was obvious and his style completely outside of the usual. we wondered how paul's really distinct hard style would transform benguela's washy soundscapes. paul returned his mix of 'chewing the cud' within the week and it's uncanny just how completely split down the middle the mix is - a true marriage of the two with enormous bass and retro drum machine right alongside the mallet rolls and double bass rumblings. an instant favorite amongst early test listeners.
